POSTAL CARD Section

On 1869 the Austro-Hungarian administration issued the first post cards intended for open and low cost mail. In France, the front side was initially used to write the address but soon replaced by illustrations, mostly publicity. After 1891, photographic pictures were placed.

Low cost, better technique of printing (invention of photo typing), increased alphabetization, commercial advertising and tourist industry applied for a great success of post cards.

We present at this Section of Museum a collection of post cards with images on Breastfeeding that are grouped in several main types:

- Religious Art Post Cards with Virgin Mary and Holy Child as outstanding performers
- Non Religious Art Post Cards
- Ethnic Post Cards
- Commercial Ad Post Cards
- Governmental Post Cards to promote Health Care
- Humoristic Post Cards
